Rilakkuma Living Room Sandwich

The idea for the foodart I'm sharing today is from Bellchan Bento. I was in love with the Rilakkuma living room set she made out of sandwich, so I tried my hands at making a set too.

IMG_3735
Here's my version of Rilakkuma living room. :) I wish my living room looks like this, lol. I made this for IT's lunch, since he eats at home after school, LT eats his lunch in my car before going to school.

IMG_3749
The furnitures were all cut out from bread. Rilakkuma and Kiiroitori were made from mashed potato, which I coloured using dark soya sauce and gel colours respectively. I did not make the food, drink and blackboard, they came from my Re-ment set, was digging through my collection for something suitable and found these.

IMG_3740
I prepared mayonnaise chicken, tomato minced beef, cheese, apple baked ham and lettuce for IT to eat with his bread.

Here's another closer look at the living room. :)

Banana Bear Toast

IT's exams are finally over. I can finally relax a little, still have to coach LT for his assessments, but it's so much easier as compared to IT's work. IT took out his Rainbow Loom kit today, the current craze now, lol. He's busy making bracelets for himself and us today, great way to keep him occupied.

IMG_3563
Sharing this banana bear toast I made for breakfast sometime ago, this was inspired by something similar on Pinterest. I made this for myself because my boys hate bananas. They used to take mashed bananas as toddlers without any problems, but they just refused to eat bananas anymore as they grew older. :(

IMG_3565
The bears' ears were cut out with a round cutter, the features were cut out from nori.

IMG_3559
I spread nutella on the bread, before topping with banana slices. Love this combi, it's yummy! :)

Piggy Steam Cake

It's Friday again, we still cannot relax much this weekend, IT still has one last exam paper next Monday. LT has exams next week but his are minor tests, which won't take up much revision time.

IMG_8892
It's been a long time since my last attempt at steam cakes. This time, I made piggy steam cakes.

IMG_8898
I used Morinaga pancake mix for this recipe. If you can't get hold of the pancake mix, you can click HERE for my other steam cake recipe instead.

  19. Steam cupcakes over preheated steamer on low heat for 12 minutes. When steaming, please cover pot lid with a cloth, to prevent water from dripping onto the cakes and spoiling the designs.

Hello Kitty & Strawberry Cookie

Remember the Rilakkuma cookies tutorial I shared before? You can click HERE to check out that post if you missed it. The Hello Kitty cookies I am sharing today were made on that same day.

IMG_3206
I used a Hello Kitty cookie cutter to cut the outline.

IMG_3213
The basic dough is the same as the Rilakkuma cookies, just substitute the cocoa powder with the same amount of plain flour, and colour two small portion of dough with yellow and pink gel colours. The eyes and whiskers were added on after baking, using melted chocolate.

IMG_3212
I still have another cookie design from that batch to share, will update in another post next time.

IMG_8734
These strawberry cookies were made last year but I forgot to share them. I found them in my draft folder, so I thought I'll include them in the post as well.

IMG_8736
The recipe for this is also the same as the Rilakkuma cookie dough. The cookies were cut out using a knife, I'll share more about how to do this when I update my next cookie design.

Hen & Chick Bento

Sharing another bento I made for Mother's Day last week.

IMG_8870
Hen and chick bento, inspired by a similar Japanese bento I saw on Pinterest. The bento I saw only had one chick, I made two instead, since I've two boys. :)

IMG_8865
The hen was made from rice, corn (beak), nori, egg white, ham and bubu arare (cheeks). The chicks were coloured yellow using mashed egg yolk. I used heart shaped picks for their beaks. Other ingredients used on the cheeks were nori, egg sheet and ham.

IMG_8866
Bento was eaten with curry pork cutlet, prawns and lettuce.

IMG_8970
Mother's Day cards from my boys this year. IT wrote the sweetest message and drew my favourite tulips. Part of LT's card is covered, as per his request, lol. I told LT I wanted to take a photo of their cards and share on the site, but he had some spelling errors in his message, he wrote in pen and could not erase, he refused to let me share. He only agreed after I told him I'll cover up the message. The stalk of carnation on the left was brought back by LT after his taekwando class, such a nice gesture from the school to give them out. :)

Pig & Piglets Bento

I made two bento for Mother's Day last week, and I'm sharing the first one today. I actually planned to make 3, but had not enough time to make the third one.

IMG_4542
Mummy piggy and her two piglets. Not exactly my situation now, am into my 10th year of motherhood. This was probably me 7 years ago, juggling between a baby and toddler. I still remembered on a bad day, I will be slinging LT, as I go about bathing IT and cooking. Fortunately, I had more good days than bad ones, LT was generally an easy baby and IT helped me a lot then. I do at times miss those days when my boys were still little, but on the other hand, I am also so glad that period is over.

IMG_4541
Piggies were made using rice coloured with pink sushi mix. I used nori and ham for their details. The blanket wrapped around baby pig is an egg sheet.

IMG_4543
The side dishes for this bento were teriyaki meat patties and stir-fry spinach with mushrooms.
