TSUM TSUM has been on my to do list for sometime. I decided to start off with making Pooh and friends first. Will continue to make more characters, after I get some Easter bentos done.
These onigiri are mini versions and my favourite out of the four is Eeyore.
From left to right, Pooh Bear, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore were coloured using deco furi, Pooh Bear was coloured using mashed egg yolk. Other ingredients used to make these were crabstick, nori and ham. Oops, just realised much later, after my boys ate the onigiri, that I forgot to add on the stripes for Tigger. -_-
Here's an idea how you can pack them into your bento. :)
It's mini sized, held in my palms for you to see.
I only did a tutorial to make Pooh Bear Tsum Tsum, details below.
First, mix in mashed hard boiled egg yolk to your rice. You can add in a pinch of salt if you like, suppose to be tastier this way. I usually omit since my boys have no complains about the egg yolk rice. Alternatively, you can also colour your rice using yellow deco furi, sold at Daiso and Meidi-ya.
Using cling wrap, mould an oval rice ball and two small round balls for Pooh Bear's head and ears respectively.
Remove the top red strip of cooked crabstick using a toothpick. Trim/cut away the excess portion.
Wrap crabstick around the oval rice ball and wrap with cling wrap to secure.
Add on Pooh's ears using pasta.
I used this puncher for Pooh's eyes, the rest were cut out using a pair of sharp tipped scissors.
If you find it difficult to trim nori into small pieces, you can make a bigger Pooh, it's much easier to trim bigger pieces of nori. :)

ReplyDeleteLol, Tk u, Lulu.
DeleteThey are so cute! May I know if you're using Japanese sushi rice? Or possible to use normal rice?? Thanks!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm using short grained rice but not japanese brand. Can, you can add more water when cooking normal rice and they can be used too, but they don't hold as well as sushi rice and will fall apart when you bite.
DeleteJ'adore !
ReplyDeleteMerci pour la découverte !
;-)
Merci!
DeleteI love Tsum Tsum! I have a pooh plush at home! These are absolutely adorable and perfect! It is everyone's dream to have a bento like this!
ReplyDeleteTk u so much!
DeleteSo cute! May I know the ingredient to make the grey color for Donald and Eeyore?
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a light shade of blue, I used deco furi to color. If you can't get hold of it, you can use water dyed with butterfly pea flower or red cabbage with a little baking soda to cook your rice blue. Or you can use water dyed with blue food coloring to cook your rice.
DeleteHi, how is the tigger one made? The rice color & stripes??
ReplyDeleteOrange coloured with deco furi, yellow for face was coloured using egg yolk. Ham for nose and nori for the stripes and features.
DeleteHi Miss Ming!
ReplyDeleteAs for the pasta, is it cooked or it can be eaten raw?
Sorry if it's a lame question..
