Ninja Bento

I decided to share this Ninja bento first, instead of the earlier bentos, as I've some requests for a tutorial. And it so happened that I did take photos for a tutorial. :) This will be a long post, so I'm taking a break from blogging for the rest of the week, since my kitchen is closed for the holidays as well ( self declared off, lol. ). I'll be back again next week. :P

Ninja bento made using nori, rice and cheese, they are quite easy to do, scroll down for the step-by-step photos to see for yourself. :)

The side dishes are seaweed pork rolls, grapes and strawberries. The shurikens are cut out from carrots.

IMG_7983
I also made these very easy Ninja sandwiches for my boys using charcoal bread, cheese and nori.

IMG_7979
I bought these charcoal bread from across the causeway, there were only 3 precious slices in a pack, lol.

A bento I packed for myself, filled with pork/seaweed rolls, beef, zucchini, okra and mentaiko hanpen.

To make your Ninja, first shape rice as shown in the picture above using cling wrap. A round shape for the head, an inverted V for the body and long cylinder shape for the arms.

IMG_7987
The next step is to wrap all these parts with nori ( note that I won't be wrapping the underside of the rice balls. ). Start off with the head, cut nori roughly as shown in the picture above, make some cuts at the white lines, place nori on your rice ball and use cling wrap to secure and shape.

IMG_7989
Repeat the same for the arms.

IMG_7990
Once again, repeat the same steps to wrap the body. The cuts at the white lines makes it easier for you to wrap the nori nicely, it's just a rough guide, you do not have to cut them exactly at those places.

IMG_7992
Cut out the scarf for the Ninja from nori using a pair of scissors. Place the nori on cheese and cut out using toothpick.

IMG_7993
For the sword, just cut out a small rectangle from cheese, then cut out small strips of nori to wrap around it.

IMG_7997\
Assemble all the parts on a plate or in a bento box. I'm using the puncher shown in the picture above for the eyes. I cut out the nose using a pair of scissors. Dab on some sakura denbu for their cheeks. Alternatively, you can also use ketchup or decor gel.

IMG_7972
There, it's done. Sorry, as like all my other tutorials, I'm not too good at explaining, but I hope the pictures help you to visualise the steps better. It's not difficult to do, give it a try. :)

Pucca and Garu Bento

IT and I knew about Pucca from a game on the internet few years ago. IT remembers her as the gal who keeps kissing the ninja. lol. LT knows nothing about Pucca, so I showed him some pictures of her and Garu on the internet. And while looking for photos of Pucca, I found out that she has her own cartoon as well. How interesting, hope we will have a chance to watch it. I wonder if it's being shown over here. :)

Lunch today was parmesan chicken, broccoli, carrots and aglio olio angel hair. Many thanks to a fellow bento Mummy who messaged me her modified version of Jamie Oliver's parmesan chicken. Love the flavours of parma ham with chicken. :) There's a video on youtube on how to prepare this if you are interested. :)

Ninjago Bento

If you remember, after I did the ninja bento last week, the boys asked me to do another one for them in the color they wanted. I was planning to do rice onigiri again with colored egg sheets, but I did not want to do it again at such a close interval. However, the boys kept asking for their ninjago bento and even gave me instructions on how to go about doing it. So, I decided to just do it their way, so I can get it over and done with. And yes, they were very happy with it. IT even says he has to be careful when he carries his lunch box today, as he does not want to spoil the ninja. -_-

Bento for LT, in the box are rice, fried salmon belly, strawberries and blueberries.

Ninja Bento

The boys had just got a Ninjago lego set each as their Christmas present. It was something they had wanted for the longest time, but we hardly buy them toys nowadays without an occasion or reason. And they have problem saving up enough to buy it themselves, so they have to wait for an occasion to get them.

These ninja were a request by the boys, except IT wanted Kai whose in red, and LT wanted Jay whose in blue. I did not make either of those, I made them Cole instead, who is in black. :P No, they did not complain but they reminded me to make the correct color ones next time. lol.

IMG_0879
LT's bento, in the bento are onigiri, tonkatsu, strawberries and sausage.

IMG_0880
IT's bento, same food as above. I just opened a new pack of seaweed and I realised the color is different, it's more greenish, whereas the old pack looks more black.

IT's bento for School, in the bento are onigiri, tonkatsu and grapes.

IMG_0897
The bentos were done quite fast today, but I took a long time on the photo taking. The boys wanted their ninjas in the photo and kept changing the arrangement for me! -_-

And this is my lunch, tonkatsu as well, with broccoli/sea asparagus.
