Sausage Car Bento

LT has no School today but it'll be a long day for him tomorrow, he's going on an excursion to the science centre. And IT has no School tomorrow. I'm in holiday mood, just went shopping with LT today and I think I'll be going shopping again with IT tomorrow, lol. :)

It's a speedy bento today, and since I did not have to leave early to send LT to School, I had some time to take some step by step photos. :)

IMG_8850
Boil some cocktail sausages.

IMG_8851
Cut off both ends and keep them, you will need them for the wheels. Then, cut four slits vertically on the sausage.

IMG_8852
Then cut 2 slits horizontally.

IMG_8856
It should look like this when you are done.

IMG_8858
Slice the 2 ends of the sausage into 4 portions.

IMG_8859
Cut out the wheels with a round cutter.

IMG_8861
Then, attach on the wheels to the car with pasta. Ta-dah, it's done, now you can complete the look by adding picks. :)

IMG_8871
Here's how it looks after adding in the picks. :) This bento is for IT, in the box are multi-grained rice, sausage, thai grilled chicken, pork rolls, golden kiwi, strawberries and blueberries.

IMG_8872
This is for LT, same food as above.

IMG_8867
This is another version, without the wheels, I think they look like logs. :) This box is for IT's recess, in the box are nutella sandwich, thai grilled chicken and grapes.

IMG_8864
There's no snack box for LT today, since he has no School. I will be making a snack box for him tomorrow for his excursion, I will update it in this post as it will be the exact same idea as these boxes I'm sharing today. I do not have to pack him lunch, because he will be having MacDonalds happy meal for lunch.

IMG_8873
And the same thai grilled chicken for me, with baked potato and spinach.

UPDATE (as of 20 April 2012) IMG_8878
As mentioned earlier in this post, I'm sharing this bento I made for LT to bring for his excursion. He chose the bunnies picks for this bento. :) I packed him some raisins and sweets as well in the small lego boxes, for him to share with his friends. He told me his teacher said they can bring sweets, so he kept telling me to pack some for him. -_- This photo was taken early in the morning when it was still quite dark, so I used indoor lighting instead. Not too happy with how it turned out, I am still very clueless in taking bento photos when there's not enough light.

Earth Day Bento

Earth day falls on this Sunday, I thought of making an early Earth Day bento, so that I can talk to the boys about this day. :) I am also joining a bento hop with the wonderful ladies from Bento Bloggers & Friends, so be sure to click on the next blog link at the end of this post, and it will take you on a Earth Day bento hop. :)

IMG_8833
Bento for IT, in the box are onigiri, tonkatsu, broccoli, golden kiwis, strawberries and blueberries. This is IT in the bento, holding on to the Earth. :) Earth is made of rice coloured with blue natural colouring and spinach.

IMG_8845
This is LT's bento, exact same food and theme, except this one has LT holding on to the Earth. :)

IMG_8837
Bento for IT's recess, in the box are nutella bread, tonkatsu and grapes. I made a girl painting a rainbow. :)

IMG_8840
Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above, except he had strawberry jam sandwich.

The bentos I made for Earth Day. :)

IMG_8847
My lunch, in the box are tonkatsu sandwich and Japanese curry. I love these sandwiches, I always buy them from the convenience stores or cafe for breakfast whenever I visit Japan.

Bear Bookmark Bento

It's something fast today, I made a bookmark out of cheese and used angel hair pasta as the 'string'. Then, I just decorated it with a bear shaped pasta. :) This idea was inspired by a book bento idea using pasta as the 'binder' that fellow bento mummies made. :) I have to do that one another time.

IMG_8820
Bento for IT, in the box are multi grained rice, five spice meatballs, pork rolls, golden kiwis and strawberries.

IMG_8817
Bento for LT, same food as above.

Three Little Pigs Bento

We watched The Three Little Pigs play produced by The Little Company last Saturday. It was a wonderful play, entertaining even for the adults. We have been to plenty of their plays and we love every one of them. So, inspired by the play and also the cute three little pigs bento I saw at 5AMbento, I decided to make my version today. :)

IMG_8812
IT's bento, in the box are cold soba, fried prawns, sausage, strawberries and golden kiwis. Straw house is made of bread and cuttlefish strips. I had wanted to use dried fish strips instead, but I went to a few shops yesterday and could not find it. :( I saw it today though, at the regular supermarket that I do my marketing. Hiaz. :(

IMG_8810
LT's bento, same food as above. Stick house is made out of bread and Pretz sticks.

IMG_8811
IT's bento for recess, in the box are cold soba and prawns. Brick house is made out of bread and ham. :)

IMG_8806
Oops, three big bad wolves instead of one, lol. :P

IMG_8813
I prefer my soba with korean spicy sauce, the sauce is sweet, spicy and sour, recipe below. Argh, there's a strand of soba on my prawn, only saw it after I uploaded the photo. -_-

BIBIM GUKSU RECIPE

Ingredients:
1 serving of soba
2 tbsp korean chilli paste
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp roasted sesame seeds

Method:

  1. Boil the soba and run them under cold water.
  2. Add the ingredients and mix them well.
  3. Serve chilled.

Elmo Bento

It's Elmo to end the week, he's my favourite character from Sesame Street. The boys adore him when they were toddlers, they still like him, but not as much as before. :)

IMG_8778
Bento for IT, in the box are onigiri, pork roll, miso chicken, strawberries and blueberries. The rice is coloured with beet. And I was trying to make cookie monster from the blueberries, but I know can't really tell it's him, lol. :)

IMG_8779
Bento for LT, same food as above. This is the first time I use miso to marinade the chicken, I usually use it for cod and salmon. The verdict is we like the miso chicken, so will definitely be cooking that again.

IMG_8777
Bento for IT's recess, in the box are nutella sandwich, miso chicken and grapes. Decided to do chocolate painting, instead of cutting Elmo from cheese. I already have a bag of cheese cut outs to clear, so I don't want to add on to it.

IMG_8776
Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above, except he's having strawberry jam sandwich.

IMG_8769
The pink furry Elmo is mine, cute right? Heehee, I hang it on one of my bag. :P

IMG_8781
Salad with miso chicken for me. Something light, coz it's hubby's birthday today and we will be having a seafood feast tonight. :P

Have a good weekend, I'll be back again on Monday. :)

Hotdog Bento

This is a continuation of the bento theme from Tuesday, also another copied idea. The hotdog and drink are not really in proportion, the hotdog looks huge compared to the drink, lol. :)

IMG_8757
Bento for IT, in the box are multi grained rice, chicken, pork rolls and strawberries. The 'hot dog' is made out of sausage, curly crisp, cheese and shaved ham. The 'drink' is made from fish sausage.

IMG_8760
Bento for LT, same food as above.

IMG_8759
Bento for IT's recess, in the box are strawberry bread, chicken and grapes.

IMG_8761
Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above, except he had nutella bread. Actually LT asked for strawberry bread and IT asked for nutella but I mixed up the boxes, lol. Very blur Mummy today. :P

IMG_8756
Miniature hot dogs. :P

A fast pesto pizza for myself, topped with portobello. cherry tomatoes and baby spinach.
