Animals Themed Breakfast Set

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and in today's post, I will be collaborating with Magnolia, to share with you a kawaii animals themed breakfast set.

IMG_16
This the breakfast set I came up with, the Panda and Piggy are bread balls which I filled with kaya and red bean. The chicken is made from a hard boiled egg, the bear is made from sausage and the frog is made from kiwi.

IMG_2153-2
I've paired this breakfast set with Magnolia's fresh milk in a 200ml pack. I love this size, I always buy this for my boys, as it's conveniently packed and just nice for one serving.

IMG_2153-3
I'm going to share the step-by-step photos, so you can create your own animals themed breakfast set too. Let's begin!

IMG_2118
Slice off bread crust.

IMG_2120
Flatten bread with a rolling pin.

IMG_2121
Cut a slit on four sides of bread.

IMG_2124
Add in fillings in the middle. (I'm using red bean and kaya.)

IMG_2125
Bring four corners together and wrap up in cling wrap.

IMG_2126
Tighten cling wrap and mould the bread ball into a round shape.

IMG_2142
To make Panda, cut out Panda's nose from nori using a hole punch; followed by cutting Panda's eyes and ears from nori using a pair of scissors.

IMG_2143
Stick nori onto bread balls with a little mayonnaise.

IMG_2144
To make Piggy, cut out ears and snout from ham with a pair of scissors.

For snout, make holes from nori using a paw craft punch. Then, cut out Piggy's eyes from nori using a pair of scissors.

IMG_2146
Stick ham and nor pieces onto bread ball with a little mayonnaise.

IMG_2129
To make chicken, firstly use pasta sticks to attach corn (as chicken's beak) onto the hard boiled egg.

For chicken's eyes, cut out nori using a hole punch. For chicken's comb, use a heart shaped food pick. (Alternatively, you can also cut from red bell peppers and attach them on using pasta sticks. )

IMG_2130
To make bear, firstly slice a little off the sausage's bottom, and use a round cutter or straw to cut out as bear's ears. Attach the ears using pasta sticks. Using nori, cut out a round shape for the muzzle, and create eyes using a paw craft punch.

IMG_2136
Place chicken and bear into a container, arrange accordingly with some lettuce as backdrop.

IMG_2137
To make frog, use a round cutter to cut out two circles from guava, place it onto a slice of kiwi. Cut out eyes and mouth from nori, using a pair of scissors.

IMG_2141
Place frog into a container, arrange accordingly with fruits like strawberries and blueberries.

IMG_2165-2
Assemble and serve.

Piggy & Chick Sushi

One week of school flew by so fast, I'm slowly settling into the routine again. I miss lazing around during the school holidays, lol.  I finally have my whole morning free to myself. Seems like a lot of time for me to relax at first, but somehow I'm still busy and I've no idea why, but it's definitely not as bad as the past two years.

IMG_6691
I've been making so many sushi lately and just serving them on sushi boards for photos. The reason is because it's a lot easier this way than having to pack them in a bento. I also don't have to rush and cook the side dishes earlier before the sun sets, so as to get a nicer photo. However, many of these ideas can be adapted for a bento if you want to do so.

IMG_6695
Piggies are one of my favourite animal to make. LT is born in the year of the pig and he calls them his friends. When he's eating pork, he says happily that he is eating his friends, oops. -_- He even ask me to eat him at times when I say I'm hungry, lol.

IMG_6700
These piggies are made using rice, fish sausage and nori. I loved how round and chubby they turned out.

IMG_7492
I also made chicks sushi. To achieve the yellow colour, the rice was mixed with mashed hard boiled egg yolks. I used nori, carrots and bubu arare(coloured rice puffs) for the details.

IMG_7493
I also added egg shells hats for two of the chicks, these were cut out from eggs using a v-shaped knife. I got it from Daiso a long time ago, not sure if it's still available now.

IMG_7499
Alright, that's all for today, need to go to bed. I'll try to update at least a recipe next week, have quite a number to update but I keep procrastinating.

Quail Egg Pig & Cow Pasta

School was closed due to the haze on friday, had a good long weekend, caught up a little on my sleep, yay. My boys are hoping the haze will be back again today so that they don't have to go to school tomorrow. After checking the pollutant index a couple of times since this afternoon, they are finally convinced it's not going to happen, lol.

IMG_5383
Now that they are off to bed, thought I'll finish off this post in my draft folder before I sleep. Quail eggs are a quick way to decorate your food, you can make them into various animals and even some cartoon characters. One of my favourite thing to make out of quail eggs are piggies.

IMG_5384
One quail egg makes one piggy, I cut the quail egg in half, that way I won't end up with too many quail eggs in the bowl. The pink portion is Japanese fish sausage, you can substitute with ham if you can't find it. The blanky one of the piggy is holding is a blanch red cabbage.

IMG_5381
The piggies are lying on Mentaiko pasta, one of our favourite Japanese fusion pasta. I've shared the recipe here on my blog before. I've also added some Ikura, which my boys like as well.

IMG_2000
Another version of quail egg piggy, this time I soaked the egg in beetroot water to get the nice pink colour. I also made a quail egg cow. The extra cutouts for their nose and ears were actually sliced out from the back of the quail egg, which means that the back part is actually not presentable, lol.

IMG_2005
This time, the animals were lying on pasta bolognese, added in asparagus, carrots and lettuce to make it a more complete meal.

IMG_2015
Served the meal with some infused water which IT likes, but LT hates. LT says he prefers plain water, no lemons in his please.

Peppa Pig & Where's Wally

For today's post, I'm sharing two food art I did during the June school holiday. The characters are  Peppa Pig and Where's Wally, they aren't related in any way, except that they both happened to originate from UK, lol. Peppa Pig is a British cartoon series and Where's Wally is created by an English illustrator.

IMG_1612
Peppa Pig and George splashing around in the mud. My boys have never watched any Peppa Pig cartoon before. Peppa Pig wasn't so popular here when they were toddlers, they grew up watching Barney, Elmo, Hi-5, Bob the builder, Little Einsteins, etc.

IMG_1605
We have a habit of tuning in to YES 933, one of the chinese radio station here, wherever we are in the car. And the station happened to be playing snippets from the cartoon, which they both found hilarious. They were curious as to what Peppa Pig looks like, so instead of googling for the picture,  I ended up making this food art to show them instead.

IMG_1625
Peppa Pig and George were both made using ingredients like ham, bell peppers, red cabbage, cheese and nori, and I placed them on a slice of bread.

IMG_1552
And this food art is Where's Wally. I think some countries know him as Where's Waldo instead. This was a sandwich served with sausages, cauliflower and seafood soup. I just found the perfect way to serve cauliflower to my boys, bake them with some oil and salt, they taste really good, can sprinkle on some cheese too.

IMG_1546
I remembered reading Where's Wally when I was younger but my boys have no idea who Wally is. Uniqlo had a Where's Wally T-shirt collection for both kids and ladies a few months back. I immediately grabbed two for my boys, and subsequently went back to get myself one too, lol. And that's how my boys came to learn about the existence of Wally.

IMG_1557
Ingredients used to make Wally were bread, ham, bell pepper, cheese and nori.

Japanese Curry Piggy Bread Bun

I've been so busy since school started, even though IT has not even started staying back yet. He will start his CCA trainings next week and his tournaments are coming, going to be busy. However, I do like that I can get lots more chores accomplished by waking up so early. If it's the school holidays, I will just laze around in bed till it's quite late and then spend the afternoon out, lol.

CutezCute Piggy and Panda

It's back to school again yesterday, the last term of the year, can't believe time flies so fast. My boys are growing up too fast!

IMG_1714
This ham piggy adds instant cuteness to your food. I used the piggy cutter from CuteZCute Animal Friends cutter and the body cutter from Cuddle Palz.

IMG_1727
I then added on eyes and mouth punched out from nori, cut out a little tail from ham, and dabbed on some ketchup.

IMG_1726
And viola, the food art is done, ultra fast to make. I used it on top of pasta here, but you can use it to decorate your rice, sandwich, salad, etc.

IMG_1734
The pasta underneath was Tom Yum seafood pasta, a current favourite with IT, he loves eating this.

IMG_1453
Here's another idea, a nutella panda sandwich. This time, I used the panda cutter from Animal Friends with the body cutter from Cuddle Palz.

IMG_1461
I used the body cutter to cut out another arm and tail and spread them with nutella for the contrast. Not very smooth as my nutella is drying up. -_-
