Tsum Tsum Pooh & Friends Cookie

This post has been sitting in my draft folder with all the photos for two weeks, wanted to get it done end of last week, but I was busy with my bento project, so still did not managed to do so. It's a short school week for my boys this week, they have no school this Thursday and Friday, yay. However, we will probably be stuck at home most of the time revising for IT's upcoming exams, but we are still looking forward to the break.

Tsum Tsum cookies, which I made some time back. The designs for these cookies were inspired by macarons designs I saw online. I thought making so many different macarons would take up way too much time, so I used a German Cookie recipe instead. The idea to use German cookie to mould characters comes from Wan Wan Tea, she has made lots of beautiful and intricate cookies design using German Cookies.

I used food colouring to make the different colours for this batch. However, I tried subsequently using matcha and black sesame to colour the dough and they turned out very well too. If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have seen those cookies. I am sharing the recipes for those too, I have a lot of recipes waiting to be updated. -_-

I'm only sharing the step-by-step for Pooh and Piglet, since these two are the easiest to make. Tigger and Eeyore can be moulded using the same method I shared.

These cookies break easily, so you do have to be careful with them. They don't work too well in bentos, I tried packing some for my boys to bring to school, but they told me the cookies broke into crumbs by recess time.

Recipe below, the basic recipe is actually the same as my Sheep German Cookies, which I shared for Chinese New Year.

POOH & PIGLET GERMAN COOKIE RECIPE

Ingredients:
125g butter
50g icing sugar, sifted
125g potato starch
80g cake flour
yellow gel colouring
Pink gel colouring

Method:
  1. Beat butter and icing sugar till light and fluffy.

  3. Sift in potato starch and flour, mix till a soft dough is formed.

  5. Divide dough into half, colour half of it using yellow gel colouring. Colour the other half of the dough using pink gel colouring. Scoop out around 2 tbsp of the pink dough and add more food colouring so it turns a darker shade of pink. Wrap the coloured dough separately with cling wrap and refrigerate for half an hour.

  7. I'll start off with steps for making Pooh. Take out the yellow dough, mould into balls and flatten them a little.

  9. Take dough and roll into two small balls, place underneath Pooh's head.

  11. Take dough and roll into two small balls, these are for Pooh's ears.

  23. Bake cookies at 140 degrees celcius for 20 minutes. To prevent cracking, please place at the middle to low rack and insert an empty tray above it.

  25. Use black food markers to draw on their features after they have cooled down.
