Donald & Stitch Star Wars Bento

Hello! I don't usually blog on weekends, but today is an exception. It's May the 4th today and it is Star Wars Day. In celebration of Star Wars Day, I'm joining a blog hop with my fellow Bento Bloggers and Friends, so remember to click on the link at the end of this post, to check out the amazing creations of my fellow bento friends. I made 2 Star Wars bentos, they were both inspired by the mascots I saw at Tokyo Disneyland last year. I'll show you photos of those after I am done sharing my bento. First, I made Donald Duck who is pretending to be R2-D2.


Bento was packed with blanched broccoli, stir-fried mushrooms in teriyaki sauce and meat rolls.


Ingredients used to create this were rice (blue coloured using deco furi), egg, nori and capsicum.


The other character I made was Stitch, who's pretending to be Yoda.


The food for this bento is similar to the previous one, as they were both made on the same day.


Ingredients used for Stitch Yoda were rice coloured green using deco furi, cheese, nori and aburage.


And this is the inspiration for my bento today. The Star Wars ride just reopened at Tokyo Disneyland last year, so they came out with these cute mascots. The ride was fun, it's a simulator ride and my boys love it!


The plush versions are so cute. My favourite has to be Donald Duck and Stitch, which explains why I chose them for my bento. :)

Stitch Bun Bento

I'm sharing about the insulated lunch bags I received from Trudeau Corp today. My boys have been using another of their lunch bag daily to School, it's called the Trapeze lunch bag and we love it very much. You can check out my post about the Trapeze lunch bag HERE. :)


These insulated lunch bags we just received are bigger and come in three colours, the ones I have are red and blue. They are made from polyester and the inner liner is made from PVC. The bags are insulated and they are easy to wipe clean. They are also BPA free, made from eco friendly materials and come with a 5 years warranty.


These bags are bigger than the Trapeze lunch bags. They come with a compartment at the bottom that will fit in a sandwich box nicely. :)


The interior is roomy, I put in a thermal container and snack box for you to gauge how big the bag is. :)


These are the lunch I packed in those containers you see in the lunch bag. Stitch butter rolls filled with tuna  in the snack containers and a cheesy chicken stew in the thermal container.

Stitch Bento

I was feeling unmotivated to do up a blog post yesterday, since I had posted a few bentos on last Saturday, lol. :P


Stitch bentos which I made last Thursday. Stitch is made from nori, rice, cheese and ham. The lunch are packed in a Monbento box, similar to the one in my giveaway. Click HERE to join if you are interested. it will close on this coming Saturday.


In the bentos are grilled wings, broccoli, golden kiwi, grapes and strawberries.

My breakfast, before I started work on Stitch bentos last Thursday. I was craving for Milo dinosaur, so made a big cup for breakfast. For those who are not familiar with this local drink, it's basically iced Milo, topped with lots of Milo powder on top. :P

Stitch Bento

It's not the first time I made Stitch, the boys prefer a fierce looking Stitch, but Mummy me prefers the cute version, which is easier to make as well. Oh well, maybe next time, I'll take up the challenge and attempt a really fierce looking one. :)


Bento for IT, in the box are onigiri, beef stew, salmon belly, strawberries and golden kiwis.


Bento for LT, same food as above.


Bento for IT's recess, in the box are nutella bread, salmon belly and grapes. A quick Stitch made with the Stitch cutter and puncher set.


Bento for LT to bring to School, same food as above, except he's having strawberry jam bread. I thought this Stitch looks fiercer, but the boys say it's not fierce enough. They also asked why is he in this colour? Lol. :P


My old boxes and new ones. :) The plastic boxes are old ones, dug them out from the back of my cupboard. The wooden ones are new, been drooling over Rakuten's wooden boxes for almost a year, finally bought them. The ones I wanted were way too expensive though, so I settled for this cheaper range. :)

Stitch Soba Bento

My Eco lunchboxes just arrived from Amazon. :) I'm in love with the box, and I'm surprise I managed to squeeze in the boys' usual portion of soba in it. I'm so tempted to get another, but shipping's not cheap though. :(

My plan today was to make Stitch out of sausages but upon completion, I think he looks more like a dog instead. lol. -_- I'm not sure if you can tell it's Stitch if I do not label it as a Stitch bento. :P


LT's bento, in the box are cold soba, prawn croquettes, grapes, strawberries and sausage. IT says Stitch is in a pail from a well. After eating up the food in the small pail, he lowered the pail into his cup of water and drank from there. lol. -_-

IT's bento for recess, in the box are cold soba, grapes, strawberries and sausage. This time, I freeze the soba sauce in an air-tight container, so it'll be nicely melted and still cold by his recess. I'll have to wait for his review when he's home to see whether it works.


I tried to make a 'fierce' Stitch for one of IT's box, coz the last time I made Stitch, he told me he wants a fierce Stitch. -_-


Herbal chicken, broccoli/sea asparagus and three cups squid for me. I kept them from dinner last night. Usually, only one dish (the same one you see in the boys' bento) from my box is cooked in the morning. But for today, the boy had something totally different, so I just ate the food I kept from yesterday. :) Prawn croquette recipe given below, the recipe makes around 8, I usually make a bigger batch and freeze.

PRAWN CROQUETTE RECIPE

Ingredients:
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 minced yellow onion
3/4 cup chopped prawn
1 tbsp white wine
1 egg
1 cup panko
1/2 cup plain flour

white sauce -
3 tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 cup all purpose flour
11/2 cup milk
pinch of salt

Method:

1. Melt 1 tbsp butter, add onions and cook till translucent.
2. Add in prawn and white wine. Set aside once cooked.
3. Now to make the white sauce, melt 3 tbsp butter.
4. Once butter is foaming, add in 1/4 cup flour in small increment and stir to form a smooth paste.
5. Do not allow the paste to color, slowly add in milk, stir to prevent lumps. Stop when the mixture is thick and glossy, ard 10 minutes.
6. Add salt and the mixture you kept aside in step 2.
7. Spread the layer in a pan, creating a layer around 1 in thick. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
8. Use a spatula to divide the mixture into 8 portions.
9. Coat with flour, followed by egg and lastly Panko.
10. Deep fry them till golden brown.

Note: You can substitute the prawns with crab meat.

Stitch Bento

IT's going on an excursion with his school today to Singapore Discovery Centre. He's really looking forward to the trip, I hope he will have fun there! :) We have never been there before, so we are waiting to fetch him, so that he can tell us all about the place. I packed a bigger bento for him for school today, as there will be no need for him to rush and finish his food so that he can play. I also gave him an extra box of biscuits to share with his friends. :)

Today Stitch theme was requested by LT, he saw Stitch preview on TV this week and he's been bugging me to make him a Stitch bento. I actually have the Stitch puncher set but I did not use them today, as I prefer a cuter version of Stitch. LT loves it, but IT says he wants a fierce looking Stitch. My boy, if I had known, I would have used the puncher and save myself the trouble. I will make a fierce Stitch the next time.
