Halloween Rilakkuma Trick or Treat

Halloween is next Thurday and I still have so many more bentos I want to make. :( Looks like I will have to leave those ideas for next year, I will have to stop making them after this week, because I doubt I can share them all on the blog before Halloween. Bad planning on my part, I should have started making them earlier. Please bear with me, as I will be sharing Halloween bentos from now on, till probably a couple of days after Halloween. -_-

Rilakkuma going trick or treat, Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori are flying away on their broomstick. :) Rilakkuma is made from rice, brown portion is coloured with a little dark soya sauce. I used nori for his hat and cap. Kiiroitori and pumpkin basket are both made from tomato, and Korilakkuma is made from quail eggs.

For this meal, I fried prawn paste chicken, and packed in orange, lettuce, grapes and strawberries.

A closer look at Rilakkuma and his friends. :) He is one of my favourite character. :)

Hello Kitty Somen

Remember the Rilakkuma soba I shared last week? This time, I'm sharing Hello Kitty somen.

IMG_9095
This Hello Kitty somen is actually very fast and easy to make, as Hello Kitty facial details are quite simple. :) Hello Kitty's eyes and whiskers are nori, her nose is from egg sheet and her bow is made from ham.

IMG_9098
The food on the side plate was chicken patties. I stuffed in slices of cheese as I've cheese cut outs to clear.

IMG_9101
Hee, can you spot the difference? I added on eyes sparklers and lashes for Kitty. Looks like Kitty with make up on. :) It's actually inspired by my Hello Kitty mirror in the picture.

IMG_9102
I think I will be making My Melody somen next, fingers crossed that it will turn out well. :)

Corpse Bride Bento

Have you watched Tim Burton's Corpse Bride before? The character I am sharing today is Emily, the corpse bride. :)

IMG_9116
Emily is made from rice, nori, egg sheet and charcoal noodles. I added some black sesame paste eye shadow for her but it was not obvious in the photo. -_- I've to confess I was not really happy with how it turned out, I know it does not really resembles Emily but I don't have time to modify. I guess that means I will probably remake her again in future.

IMG_9113
I made some carrot quinoa fritters, seen at the side of the plate. I've been hooked on adding quinoa to my salads these few months. I wanted to introduce it into my boys' meals, so I thought making it into fritters would be more easily accepted by them. :) I will share the recipe at the end of the post.

IMG_9105
This is another version of Emily, with flowers. The words on the fritters were added on digitally, I had wanted to add the words using cheese, but forgot.

QUINOA FRITTERS RECIPE

Ingredients:
1 cup shredded carrots
2/3 cup quinoa
1 egg
Bunch of basil, chopped finely
1/2 cup plain flour
1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp black pepper

Method:
  1. Cook quinoa in 1 cup water. Bring to boil, then simmer till all the water is absorbed.
  2. Whisk egg, toss in salt and black pepper. Add in carrots, quinoa, basil and stir to combine.
  3. Add in flour slowly till the mixture will stick together. You can use less than 1/2 cup if the mixture sticks, or add a little more if the mixture can't.
  4. Heat up pan with a little oil. Shape mixture into flat patties and pan fry them.

Note:
  • You can also add in other veggies, like broccoli.

Halloween Ghost Bento

I normally don't post on weekends, decided to blog today because I had wanted to do so yesterday, but was too tired from revising with IT. IT's exams are next week, having mixed feelings, there's still so much more for us to revise and yet I can't wait for the exams to be over.

IMG_9070
I'm sharing some ways to create a ghost, a friendly one, for Halloween. :) This one was using crepes, you can use wraps too.

IMG_9075
There was teriyaki chicken, cheese and lettuce under the crepes.

IMG_9077
I rolled up the rest of the crepes and cut them in half.

IMG_9086
Another ghost creation, this time using egg sheet. The bow on top is made from ham.

IMG_9084
There's salmon fried rice under the egg sheet. :)

Halloween Pooh Bear Bento

I've more Halloween bentos to share, and so many more I want to make, I hope I can complete them by next week and share them before Halloween is here.

IMG_9055
Halloween Pooh Bear bentos for my boys. Upon completion of these bentos, I actually felt Pooh looked a little weird but I could not pinpoint what was wrong then. In the end, I just went ahead and took the photos. It was only much later that I realised I forgot to make his ears! Argh, maybe I will remake this again next year. -_-

IMG_9059
Pooh was rice mixed with steamed pumpkin. My boys ate him with lettuce, croquettes, golden kiwis, grapes and strawberries. :)
