Teddy Bear Tea Time Bread

While surfing some Japanese sites, I saw some uber cute teddy bear bread baked in cupcake cases. They immediately went into my must try list. I did not have time to bake bread, so I ended up doing a cheater version using store bought bread buns instead.

I made these around 3 weeks ago, they were definitely much faster and way easier to make than the version I saw. However, I still hope to try baking them one day. I added on a burger made out of sausage, cheese, sesame seeds and lettuce for one bear. The other bear is holding on to a teacup which I filled with some chocolate sauce.

The bread buns were eaten with chicken carrot patties and beef and daikon stewed with Chu Hou sauce. It's my first time cooking beef in Chu Hou sauce, loves how flavourful it turned out.

The bears' ears and hands were cut out using scissors, and nori were used for their eyes and nose.

Sleeping My Melody Sandwich

Easter is coming in around a month's time. I'm not sharing an Easter bento today. In fact, I've yet to start making one, most likely will start making some after next week, as I already have stuff I want to make for next week. Sharing this My Melody snack I made for IT. My Melody is bread spread with cream cheese. The pink cream cheese is store bought strawberry cream cheese. I've shared previously on how to make your own, you can click HERE to check out that post. IT did mention he prefers the homemade strawberry cream cheese after eating this, I think it's because the homemade version tastes sweet. The mushroom and Melody's nose were made using cheese.

Frozen Movie Olaf Somen

We love the Disney movie, Frozen. The song 'Let it go' from the movie is so popular, I've heard so many renditions of it. The song is very nice, but I hear it so often, I'm pretty sick of it now, lol.

My boys' favourite character in Frozen, no prize for guessing correctly, is none other than Olaf.

Olaf was made using somen, cheese, nori and carrots. His hands were made using grape stems and can't be eaten. I guess you can if you want to, but it will probably taste awful, lol. -_- The somen was eaten cold with a dipping sauce.

This was quite easy to make, my boys asked me to make Olaf again, will be making another Frozen bento soon.

Rilakkuma Cookie

Remember the bear cookies and cupcakes I shared before the school holidays? You can check out that post HERE if you missed it. I made a few designs for the cookies. I am sharing how to make Rilakkuma cookies in this post, you can easily use the same recipe to replicate my previous bear cookies, or even other designs as well. :)

I decorated some of my cupcakes with Rilakkuma cookies.

I feel that the cookie colour is a little too dark for Rilakkuma, you might want to reduce the cocoa powder further in the recipe I'm sharing below.

I used a Rilakkuma cutter to cut out the cookies this time. I will share how to make similar cookies without a cutter next time.


235g plain flour/cake flour
5g cocoa powder
100g unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
100g fine castor sugar
pinch of salt
2 egg yolks
Wilton yellow colouring gel

  1. Cream butter and sugar till it turns pale and fluffy, adding in the sugar in 3 additions.
  2. Add in egg yolk and mix well. Weigh and divide the mixture into 3 portions of 150g, 60g and 30g.
  3. Divide plain flour in portions of 145g, 60g and 30g.
  4. Sift in 145g of plain flour, 5g of cocoa powder to 150g of the mixture in step 2, mix well till a dough is formed. This will be the chocolate coloured dough. Sift in 60g of plain flour to 60g of the mixture in step 2, mix well till a dough is formed. Sift in 30g of plain flour to 30g of the mixture in step 2, add in some Wilton yellow colouring gel using a toothpick. Mix well till a dough is formed. Wrap the dough using cling wrap and refrigerate for half and hour.

  6. Remove dough from fridge, roll out the chocolate dough between 2 pieces of parchment paper. Keep rolling till the dough becomes softer. Cut out cookies using a Rilakkuma or bear cutter.

  8. Roll out the plain coloured dough and cut out oval for the tummy. If you do not have a cutter, you can use knife to cut out and shape the dough with your hands.

  10. Cut out oval for the mouth.

  12. Roll out the yellow coloured dough, cut out the ears. I simply cut out a little of the dough and used my hands to mould for this step. Line tray with baking paper and bake at 170 degrees celcius for around 15 minutes.

  14. After the cookies have cooled down, you can add in the details using chocolate and decor gel.

Sanrio Ice Cream Bento

It's back to school again after the one week break. We had a fun week, glad the rain stopped towards the end of the week and we ended the holiday with a trip to Universal Studios and Haw Par Villa. I took a break from foodart last week, I've so many ideas, hopefully I can get started tomorrow.

Sharing these ice cream onigiri I made around a month back. These onigiri were inspired by Bell's very cute ice cream creations. She made hers using Magnum ice creams! You can check out her Facebook page HERE, she makes really awesome foodart.

I chose to make Sanrio characters, from top to bottom, Chococat, Keroppi, My Melody and Hello Kitty.

I took a photo of the onigiri before adding on the details, as I thought they look cute even without any decorations too. Pink and green rice were coloured with deco furi. The black one was rice wrapped with seaweed. The rice were all moulded onto ice cream sticks using cling wrap.

Ingredients used to make these ice cream onigiri were nori, egg sheet, cheese and ham.

My boys found these quite fun to eat, as they could eat the rice just by holding on to the ice cream sticks. :)

Cloud Sandwich

Singapore experienced a dry spell of over a month recently. The rain finally came, in fact, it has been raining the past few days. I don't mind the rain if we are staying at home, a light drizzle is fine, but I hate heavy thunderstorms when I've to fetch and send my boys to school. I hate driving in heavy rain when visibility is poor.

I made these simple cloud sandwich for IT's snacks last Friday, was hoping for some rain to come, and the rain really did come after that. Afternoon snacks are usually for IT, as LT is in the afternoon session and is still in school.

Details were done using nori and ham.

Drizzled on some maple syrup on the bread before IT ate them, and IT said it looks like it's raining maple syrup, lol.

Mashed Potato Bear on Pasta

A little lazy to get the blog updated or do any food art since the holiday break started. I think I'll probably take a break this week from making cute food, pretty much enjoying the time off to head outdoors with my boys. Might try to update another one or two posts this week as I still have a backlog of food creations not shared on the blog.

Bears playing on my dinner, made this around 2 weeks ago for myself. Yes, you heard me correctly, made this for myself, not my boys. It was a last minute decision to add on the bears. I was alone at home (LT was in school and IT was on a school excursion) and done cooking dinner very early that day. There was still plenty of time left before I had to head out to fetch my boys, so I ended up adding 2 mashed potato bears to decorate my dinner. Ate it while watching my Korean drama, lol.

Bears are made from mashed potatoes, nori and bubu arare (rice puffs on their cheeks).

One bear is resting on seafood aglio olio pasta, and the other one is climbing onto a bowl of pumpkin soup. Daddy and my boys had the same food later that day for dinner, but served in much bigger portions than mine.
